  • ACCIONA is carrying out the works with Ferrovial and JJC as part of the international WAYRA consortium.
  • The new control tower is due to come into operation in 2021.

The President of Peru, Martín Vizcarra, and the Minister of Transport and Communications, Carlos Estremadoyro, have visited the works for the new control tower at Jorge Chávez Airport that ACCIONA is constructing in Lima as part of the WAYRA international consortium, which includes Ferrovial and the Peruvian firm JJC.

Construction of the new control tower marks a milestone in the project to expand Jorge Chávez Airport, as it will allow two runways to be used simultaneously for landing and take-off.

At a height of 65 metres, the new 12-storey control tower will be a reinforced concrete construction topped with a steel structure. The cylindrical column with an 11 metre diameter will support a large control room that will meet with the strict visibility requirements over the airfield.

The foundations for the tower have now been completed and 33 piles have been put in place to form the base that will support the planned control tower. The remediation works for the environmental liabilities identified on the land granted by the Peruvian government were concluded in June.

The works on the new control tower are expected to be completed in 2021 to coincide with the coming into operation of the current runway.Construction of the second landing runway is scheduled to be completed in 2022 and will be operated simultaneously.
