ACCIONA Construction has received the “Asturian Stamp of Safe Mobility in the Company”, awarded by the Asturian Institute of Occupational Health and Safety to companies based in the Principality of Asturias, for good practices in occupational health and safety and road safety management.

The ceremony to present the award, which took place today in Oviedo, was attended by Eduardo Montes, Head of Department at ACCIONA Construction, and Jesús Jaime Ruiz, Head of Prevention Service in the north region at ACCIONA Construction.

The initiative, which was launched this year, is part of the activities carried out by the Asturian Institute of Occupational Health and Safety to publicise and promote a more preventive culture in companies in Asturias.

ACCIONA Construction is carrying out various occupational health and safety initiatives at its current works sites in the Principality, to promote leadership in prevention and incorporate partner companies into the process of implementing H&S in its projects.

ACCIONA Construction has had a significant presence in the region for more than 50 years, carrying out important projects in different spheres of the infrastructure sector.

In the industrial field, it has undertaken projects for companies such as ENSIDESA, Endasa and Asturiana de Zinc. It has also carried out various supply and provisioning projects at the Soto de Ribera power plant, and water supply projects such as the Alfilorios dam and the Aramo tunnel.

In the field of transport infrastructure, it has been involved in landmark projects such as Section 6 of the Gijón-El Ferrol railway line; the “Y Highway” that links the main population centres in the centre of the region; the Los Santos Bridge, which connects the region with Galicia; the Cantabrian Highway; or the “El Cueto” intersection of the A-63 in Oviedo.

It is currently carrying out major projects in Asturias such as the A63 highway section between Doriga and Cornellana, which includes an 875-metre viaduct, 75 metres high, over the River Narcea; construction of an industrial warehouse with a capacity of 250,000 tons of ore in the Port of Avilés; refurbishment of the Naranco multipurpose centre in Oviedo; or the civil engineering works for the coke furnaces in Gijón, among others.

Its commitment to innovative and sustainable solutions has been recognised by awards such as the Construmat Prize for technological innovation, awarded for the Luarca bypass construction project; the Asturias Architecture Prize for the Gijón City Council pavilion at the FIDMA Expo; and two “Silver Brick” awards for the Cantabrian Highway project (Section: Villalegre-Vegarrozadas and the Oviedo bypass).

ACCIONA Construction, which has more than 140 employees in Asturias, is firmly committed to the health and safety of its employees. It uses a range of participation, training and collaboration tools to ensure the health and safety of all of its employees and partners, making occupational health and safety a differentiating factor for the company.
