ACCIONA Construction took part in the Smart Regions Forum, held in Bilbao on 16 July.
The main goal of the event was to define the Smart Region concept, analysing the current situation, defining the indicators for diagnosing a region, and discussing the possible funding models for implementing new projects.
The Forum focused on several key topics - smart regions, energy efficiency, the circular economy, environmental sustainability, sustainable mobility and transport, food and health, e-government, DATA and ICTs, among others.
During the seminar, María Antonia Valero, head of environment at ACCIONA Construction, gave a presentation on sustainability, energy efficiency and the circular economy.
She talked about one of the company's top priorities in the area of sustainability: carbon neutrality and all the initiatives undertaken to achieve it. Among them, she highlighted reducing consumption in production processes and increasing the use of renewable energies.
In relation to the Circular Economy concept, María Antonia Velero referred to ACCIONA’s Waste Management Plan, which promotes the circular economy through a series of goals set for 2020. She also highlighted the important role of ACCIONA Construction's Technology Centre in developing construction solutions with materials based on industrial symbiosis.
Other forum participants included representatives from public institutions such as the European Commission, the European Parliament, the Ministry of Energy and the Digital Agenda, the Government of the Basque Country, the Government of Navarre and several city governments.
