The Wanda Metropolitano Stadium will play host today to one of the most important events for architecture and urban design professionals in the country - the Spanish Architecture and Urban Design Awards, presented by the Spanish Council of Architect Associations (CSCAE).
The award-winning projects include the Palma de Mallorca Convention Centre, built by ACCIONA Construction and designed by architect Francisco Mangado, which will receive the Ex-Aequo Spanish Architecture Award.
The event will be attended by figures such as Public Works Minister Iñigo de la Serna; Minister for Education, Culture and Sport, Iñigo Méndez de Vigo; Club Atlético de Madrid Chairman Enrique Cerezo; and institutional representatives from the Governments of the Balearic Islands and the Principality of Asturias, as well as representatives from other entities from different economic and social spheres.
Justo Vicente, ACCIONA Construction’s General Manager for Spain and Portugal, and Frances López, ACCIONA Construction’s General Manager for the Eastern Zone, will attend the event representing the company, responsible for building the Palma de Mallorca Convention Centre.
This project included the construction of a complex comprising the main building, which houses the 34,000 m2 Convention Centre, and a second building - an adjoining four-star 268-room hotel.
The CSCAE uses these awards to recognise architectural and urban planning excellence, as well as the effort and perseverance of the institutions to promote high-quality works in difficult economic times.
