Manuel Jiménez, Managing Director of ACCIONA Construction in Ecuador and responsible for construction of Line 1 of the Quito Metro, has been recognised by the Civil Engineers Association of Madrid in the “Best Foreign Career 2018” category.
The awards ceremony, which took place yesterday at the Teatros del Canal centre in Madrid, was attended by Ángel Garrido, President of the Regional Government of Madrid; María José Rallo del Olmo, General Secretary for Transport of the Ministry of Public Works; and Huberto Moreno, General Manager of ACCIONA Construction, among others.
The award recognises Manuel Jiménez’ work abroad, especially on construction of the Quito Metro, a highly technical and complex project that is being carried out by ACCIONA Construction through the Line 1 Consortium.The Line 1 route includes construction of 22 km of tunnel which is being excavated by three tunnel boring machines, and 13 new stations which will join a further two already constructed by ACCIONA during the first phase.
A qualified civil engineer from the Technical University of Madrid, Manuel Jiménez has spent his entire 30-year career at ACCIONA.After joining the company in 1988, he has primarily worked on construction of major infrastructures in the Madrid region, especially in the fields of metros, highways and water treatment.
In 2012 he was appointed General Manager of the Phase I works of first line for the Quito Metro due to his proven experience of managing large-scale metro projects, before becoming project manager of the Line 1 Consortium for Phase II of the Quito Metro in 2016.Manuel is also head of Construction in Ecuador and is currently responsible for all of ACCIONA Construction’s activities in the country.
