The European REMOURBAN project, in which ACCIONA Construction and ACCIONA Engineering are both involved, has received the Users Award in the “Districts” category at the Spanish edition of the Green Solutions Awards 2018, organised by the Spanish platform Construction21.
This project, financed by the European Union through the Horizon 2020 framework programme and coordinated by the Cartif Foundation, seeks to develop a holistic model that will progress the smart cities concept. A diverse range of actions will therefore be carried out in the city of Valladolid in the fields of mobility, energy and ICTs.
Under this project, ACCIONA Construction has upgraded the energy efficiency features of buildings in the FASA district in Valladolid, which were constructed in the 1960s and had serious deficiencies in their thermal envelopes, reducing comfort levels and offering poor energy efficiency.
In order to convert the neighbourhood into a low energy consumption district, work was done on the building envelopes as well as heat generation systems. These actions included putting thermal insulation into facades and roofs, upgrading the lighting system in communal areas and arranging the installation of integrated photovoltaic energy facilities onto one of the facades. The heating network was also upgraded and converted to biomass fuel.
The projects recognised in the Spanish edition of the Green Solutions Awards will go up against the candidates selected by the other participating countries in the international final. The awards ceremony for the final will take place on 6 December in Katowice, Poland, at the Conference of the Parties (COP 24) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
