  • The campaign seeks to raise awareness among drivers of the possible presence of workers on the roads, so that drivers take extreme care, reducing the number of accidents that occur in these circumstances
  • The campaign is an ACEX initiative (the Association of Infrastructure Maintenance and Operation Companies) of which the ACCIONA Infrastructure Maintenance Area is a member

The ACCIONA Infrastructure Maintenance Area, as a member of ACEX, has joined the association’s latest campaign entitled “You’re not alone on the road”.The initiative seeks to raise awareness among drivers and alert them to the possible presence of workers on the roads, so that they take extreme care and attention, reducing the number of accidents that occur in these circumstances.

This campaign not only seeks to protect maintenance workers, but also other groups such as Guardia Civil traffic officers, roadside assistance operators, ambulance drivers, medical professionals, etc. who may have to carry out part of their work on the highways.

The campaign’s actions include distribution of 60,000 bracelets embossed with the “You’re not alone on the road” slogan to maintenance workers, their families and highways professionals, such as haulage drivers. The campaign is also being transmitted on the DGT’s highway gantry displays; information about the initiative is being publicised in driving schools; and various actions are being launched through specialist media outlets and on social networks.

The “You’re not alone on the road” campaign has partly arisen from a study about accident rates around roadworks on main roads, prepared by the Highways Safety Committee of the Spanish Technical Highways Association (ATC) between 2000 and 2012, which concluded that 10% of fatalities in these sections are caused by vehicle accidents.

The initiative, which is being supported by the Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) and the Directorate General of Highways of the Spanish Ministry of Public Works, has been recognised by the 2018 edition of the National Safety Awards organised by ACEX.
